Chapter 1

Nobody was awake to see it happen, except Rickman. He walks into a drawing-room looking for something to eat and comes across a sketchbook. At first, he pays no attention to it, but then all of a sudden, the pages look wet. Since it is the middle of the night, the drawings are not wet because they were just drawn, but they are wet because they are forming together in the middle? Rickman keeps watching, and the ink that has collected in the middle starts to flow down the crease in the middle of the sketchbook. When it gets to the edge, the ink splotch tries its best to flow over the end of the spine, but cannot seem to do it. Nothing happens for a while, and Rickman starts to get bored. Then, the ink finally manages to get over the edge and starts to make its way across the table, but it looks like it is fighting to just be on it. When it reaches the edge of the table it does a little dance, like celebrating its freedom. By this point, Rickman had seen enough. He pounces on the splotch, and the chase is on! The ink climbs up onto a poster with glass, but can’t reach it. Then Rickman gives up the hunt and goes away. The ink goes into Ethan’s room and finds a math book. It goes across, and as it does, erases everything that it touches. It does the same for a novel, and finally, a drawing board. It rests on it and starts to sleep.
